Welcome back to It Pays to Know!

We’re excited to get back to sharing content to help your company make the best payments decisions, wherever you are in your journey.

If you’re considering your options for getting into the payments space, we know there’s a lot to chew on.

It all starts with asking yourself some basic questions. Like, why do you want to add payments to your platform? How much control do you want to have over the experience? And, ultimately, how much revenue do you want to keep for yourself?

The answers to those questions will help you make decisions. Like how you want to insert yourself into the payments revenue food chain and which providers will help you get there.

But one thing is clear: no matter how you go about it, you should be treated fairly. No ISV leaders should ever think that they have to put up with dubious practices like opaque contract terms or surprise fees because “that’s just the way it is.” It isn’t.

Here's what it pays to know this week...

Eight Things to Expect from Your Payments Partner

Spoiler alert: restrictive terms aren’t on the list.
You might think they are, especially if your colleagues have shared stories of bad experiences. But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can and should expect to be treated fairly.

So, what does being treated “fairly” mean?
We give you a place to start with our list of eight things you can expect from your payments partners.   Full scoop

How Do Software Companies Fit Into The Payments Revenue Food Chain?

Every time a digital transaction is processed, a small percentage of the associated revenue gets split among the companies that made it possible. If you multiply that small percentage by many transactions, it can really add up.

Software companies are increasingly part of the mix.

This paper explains who gets a share, and how software companies are becoming a more important player.      Full scoop
